Health Sciences
Librarian
Duties
and Responsibilities: Health
science librarians help organize medical information and help the practitioners
find the information they need for patient care, education, research, and
administration.
The librarians
select books, journals, and other materials. They even establish electronic
portfolio and digital database information systems. They put this information
in collections and develop catalogs for access and provide reference assistance
to patrons.
The technicians
assist the librarians in organizing collections, shelve books, manage
circulation desks, and etc.
Salary: $20,000 - $30,000 (Library
Technicians)
$35,000 -
$55,000 (Librarians)
Education:
Students should take
challenging high school courses in science, management, math, and in English.
The technicians
training vary on the employee. Some provide the training, but all prefer that
students complete the programs at a community college or a technical school. You
can earn an Associate’s degree in these programs.
The librarians
should earn an undergraduate degree in any of the life sciences and must earn a
Master’s degree in library science from a program. It must be credited by the
American Library Association. Some of these programs offer specialized courses
in the health science librarianship.
Reflection:
Do you think
you would like to be one?
Why? Why not?
I would not
like to be one because I would have to be selecting books, journals, and etc. Though
I would like to be a technician because I get to help organize and assist the
librarians.
