Clinical Laboratory Specialist

Clinical Laboratory Specialist
Duties and Responsibilities: A clinical laboratory specialist has both a technician and a technologist. This is referred to as a medical laboratory technician or a medical technologist. Both perform laboratory work to identify, diagnose, and treat diseases.
The technicians use microscopes, laboratory equipment, chemicals, and computers to preform laboratory procedures. They even collect blood specimens and prepare culture media. They make tests and prepare the reports for the technologists or the physicians.
The technologists preform more complex tests and procedures than the technicians. They supervise the technicians, confirm on the tests, and manage the laboratory quality programs.
Most specialists work in hospitals, but some are also employed by private practices, medical groups, research laboratories, etc.
Salary: $20,000-$28,000 (technicians)
$25,000-$40,000 (technologists)
Education: Students should take the challenging high school courses in science, math, and in English. An associate’s degree in the field is required to become a clinical laboratory technician. A bachelor’s degree in the field is normally required to become a technologist. Though some employees accept the associate’s degree and extensive clinical experience as a substitute.
Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?

I would not like to be a technician because I would not be something I would enjoy doing. Though I would like to be a technologist because they get more complex tests.

“The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it- as long as you really believe 100 percent.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger

What Arnold is trying to say is that you can do whatever you want, as long as you set your mind to it. There’s no limit but your mind telling you what to do. Though if you focus on it and give it your all 100% then there’s nothing that can stop on achieving that dream.

“You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.”
Michael Phelps
22 Olympic medals (18 Gold)

Michael is trying to tell us that never say you have a limit on something because you can achieve far and wide on your dreams. Michael didn't have a limit when he was training for the Olympics. For example, the sky is the limit; you can never really reach the sky that’s why it’s the limit. If you never stop dreaming then you won’t have a limit on how much you can go off and dream of.

“Try a little harder to be a little better.”
Gordon B. Hinckley

What Gordon is trying to say is that for every little thing you do whether it’s big or small if you try harder even by a little it’s going to be better. For example, if you did badly on the CST last year, this year try a little harder by studying more, getting up more early and eating well you can score higher knowing that you were wide awake and more focused. Those little things that make you work harder make a big difference because before you probably did not try and now that you did its better.

“If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less-than-excellent work.”
Thomas J Watson

Thomas is saying that you can achieve excellence whenever you want but to do so yo need to stop doing something that won’t get you there and that isn't as excellent. He means that stopping something that isn’t part of your excellence is better because that won’t stop you/slow you down. Do not quit on something you just need to achieve something to make you feel better and know that you can do anything to get there. You can get anywhere today; all you need to do is stop the things that are not important to you. Things like achieving something is important to a person because then you will know that you tried your best in achieving that goal. For example, a lot of people give up on their dream because they have problems but those people did not quit the less excellent work because they thought that was important, and now that their older they think they can’t. But you can achieve it anytime you want to.
