Histology specialist

Histology specialist
Duties and Responsibilities: Histology specialists have both histologic technicians and histologists. The histologists are also referred to as histotechnologists. Both jobs require that they prepare tissue samples for a physician so they can determine if a patient has a disease, dysfunction, or malignancy. Histology technicians and histologists create samples by using equipment to make thinly sliced tissue samples.  Then mount the thin slices on microscope slides and use chemicals to stain them so that the important structures are visible. Histologists do more complex and advanced procedures than the technicians. They often perform management functions. Histology specialists work in hospital, veterinary, pharmacy, or research laboratories.
Salary: $22,000 - $35,000 (Histologic technicians)
        $30,000 - $50,000 (Histologists)
