Technician
Duties
and Responsibilities:
Operating room
technicians are either called a surgical technician or a surgical technologist.
They prepare rooms for surgeries. They are also responsible for having surgical
instruments, sterile bandages and linens, fluids, and other equipment ready for
the operation. They could also assist the doctors in surgeries when they need
an instrument and for counting sponges/ needles before and after operations. They
deliver specimens to hospital laboratories for analysis. After an operation
they take the patient to a recovery room.
Salary:
$16,000-$22,000
Education:
To become a
room technician a high school diploma or GED certificate is required. Some
vocational and junior colleges offer programs in operating room technology, and
training may be taken at hospitals. Programs can be from one to two years. Students get trained in medical terminology,
physiology, and in sterilization methods. At the end the students must pass an
examination to become certified.
Reflection:
Do you think
you would like to be one?
Why? Why not?
I think I would
like to become one because I might enjoy going to work every day to this. The school
work is not that much and I still get to help patients out after surgeries.
