Optical Laboratory Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:
The laboratory technicians grind and fit eyeglass lenses into frames according to prescriptions that are written by ophthalmologists/optometrists. The technicians set the lens grinding machine so that the lens blanks are polished. After they fit the frames into the glass lens, and then fit them into the patient. Some of the technicians work in the optical laboratories or for the optometrists. A lot of them work in retail stores that have optical departments.
Salary: $15,000-$20,000
Education:
To begin the training you must either have a GED certificate or a high school diploma. The programs last between six months to one year and are provided by community colleges or vocational schools. Some retail stores provide the training while on the job.

I would not like to be one because I wouldn’t enjoy working at my job.
